MUSIC PERFORMANCE VIDEO

Music is storytelling, expression, nuance. Capturing it with video means first recording stunning audio. That is a non-negotiable! Then following the story of the music, showing the human element of the musicians pouring themselves into their craft, and the subtle details like a cloud of rosin dancing off the cellist's bow or the vibration of a harp string.

Eilidh McRae's Electric Harp

Mad. Skills. We recorded Eilidh's electric harp with a combination of DI and an AKG 414 to capture acoustic articulation, both through API preamps. But enough tech talk. Ain't she great?

She Used To Be Mine

The talented Cece Bersche performing in the studio. We recorded with a Lauten Atlantis mic through a Universal Audio M610 tube preamp.

RSO String Quartet: It Don't Mean a Thing

Shot at the historic Lounsbury House smack in the middle of the pandemic (don’t worry, everyone got swabbed that morning). After the session, Jorge, the 1st violinist, gave me the first non-household hug I'd had in months—I still get a little weepy thinking about it. We started off by recording the track, setting up each instrument with its own dedicated mic. Plus, we threw up a couple of overheads to grab the natural reverb bouncing around the room. Every mic placement was dialed in so we could capture the details without losing that nice live feel. After grabbing a well-earned lunch, we packed up the gear and then shot the video to the track we’d just recorded. The video? Basically me sprinting around the historic house, gimbal in hand, trying not to trip over anything.

Sleepers, Awake!
by J.S. Bach

Ridgefield High School's award-winning symphonic orchestra. This is a 4 camera shoot. The orchestra is mic'ed with a Gefell decca tree and two Earthworks flanks hung above the stage, all running through Grace preamps.

RSO String Quartet - Jupiter from "The Planets"

At The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, CT. Recorded with Blue Mouse on cello, AKG414 on violin and Soyuz 013 on 2nd violin & viola, all through Grace preamps and RMS converters. This was a 3 camera live concert shoot with a wide and 2 live angles.
